Akihabara & Ikebukuro

Some of you may not understand our excitement for today, but please just appreciate how gamer’s like Jordan work…they love to see anything relating to their games in real life!!

Today we were up and awake at 6:30AM and by 7:30AM were on a train to Akihabara. Akihabara is called “electric city”, as it is well known for its games, devices and technology. It is also well known for people who are passionate about a particular field relating to technology and here in Japan that “passion” is called “Otaku”. Jordan is a Final Fantasy Otaku or “Geek”.

We arrived in Akihabara at 10:05AM and headed straight to the shops! There were so many lights, it felt like we were in New York!

Once it was 11:20AM we headed to the main reason we came…the Final Fantasy Cafe! We booked tickets in advance and I am glad we did as it was sold out as we arrived! It was themed inside like a cafe inside the game, with weapons and pictures from in game. It also had computers set up to play the game! The best part was the food! It was made to be different things from the game or resembling items or people from the game.

This was an incredible experience! Japan is well known for their themed cafe’s and there’s evens to be a maid themed cafe on every street! Maid cafes are where the waitresses are dressed like traditional maids and create a fun atmosphere serving you foods created for fun! If we have time we want to go to one maid cafe and an owl cafe!

After the cafe we then walked the streets for a few hours browsing all the shops for their figure dolls as Japan is also well known for their collectable figurines!

Later we headed to Ikebukuro for one reason…the Pokemon Centre! To be honest it was a bit of a let down after the hype! However we will also go to the one in Kyoto as it is newer and hopefully there will be other items there. We did however buy quite a lot there…actually today was our big shopping day!

Ikebukuro is super busy at night

Kids be excited…Mrs.Taylor bought a Cundaquil for the classroom and an Oddish silhouette to go above the light switch upstairs!!

Today’s items!

My Items!

Cyndaquil for 56A

Oddish for the light switch

Thanks again for following guys and all your comments! It has been so exhausting but we love it all!

P.s. Today was the the first day it rained and luckily we only had to walk from the train station to our hotel!

P.p.s. Girls…did you think I didn’t know what the Japan flag was?

Otaku mainly means to have big interests mainly anime and manga. ( just wanted you to know.)

Thats true Jorji it was always referred to as mainly anime and manga. However we went out with a Japanese family for dinner and they referred to Jordan as Otaku for Final Fantasy and called him “gamer”. So I am fairly certain they use it more broadly now for “geek” references ๐Ÿ™‚

Brenda! What a silly question! We have eaten sashimi and all sorts of things here! Sushi we’ve eaten but not the same way we eat it in Australia. Sushi is just a reference for raw fish ๐Ÿ™‚
